Chapter 26

If  you were Master Williams, what disposition (sentence) would you give J.T, and Digger? Explain your answer.

Chapter 24

At the end of Chapter 24 Brady says that he feels like he has "hundred pound weights strapped to his feet," and that he "feels numb." What are the meanings of those two phrases? Why does Brady feel this way?

Identify a phrase from Chapter 23 and determine the meaning of the phrase.

Chapter 22

In Chapter 22, Thomas Parks ( Brady's Dad) talks to Brady about making a decision based on what is right and wrong. Compare and contrast the situation Brady's dad is in to the situation Brady is facing now.

Chapter 21

Compare and contrast how Brady's mom dealt with Amanda's death right after it happened and how she is dealing with it now.

Chapter 20

Think about what Brady did to protect his friends.  Compare or contrast what you have done in the past for one of your friends.  (Make sure to include some signal words that show you are comparing or contrasting.)

Chapter 19

Compare and contrast Brady's life to his cousin Kevin's life. What is similar, and what is different? Use information from the text to back up your response.

Chapter 18

In chapter 18, we find out more about the three friends. Compare and contrast J.T., Digger, and Brady's dream jobs, and explain what this tells us about them.

Chapter 17

On page 126, Carl and Brady discuss Digger's parents. Infer what you think Digger's home life is like and use clues from the text to back up your answer.

Chapter 16

In Chapter 16, Brady knows that J.T. and Digger caused the kayak to sink. Brady is struggling trying to decide what he should do with that information and who he should tell. If you were Brady, what would you do?

Chapter 13

Make a prediction.  What do you think Brady is going to do now that he has found the drill and reflected on the day at the beach with his friends?

Summarize the conversation Brady had with his mom about the butterfly garden.

Chapter 11 Part 2

Brady's Dad tells him he must take care of his crab pots.  Brady gets up early to go out before school but says "I knew I couldn't go back out on the water."  Why is Brady feeling this way?

Chapter 11

Brady decides that he wants to help the DiAngelo's with whatever they need.  If you were Brady, what would you say to Mrs. DiAngelo?

Chapter 10

Brady has a lot of emotions running through him right now.  At the end of the chapter he says "I just didn't get it."  Describe why Brady is feeling this way.  And, why do you think J.T. lied to Brady?

Chapter 9

In Chapter 9 Brady goes fishing with his dad in hopes that his dad will talk to him about everything that has happened.  The topic never comes up in the conversation and Brady says he is suffocating.  Why does Brady describe himself as suffocating?

Chapter 8

Whoa!  A lot happens in chapter eight.  Explain your reaction to what happened to Brady in this chapter.  Is there anything in your own life that relates to what is happening to Brady?  If so, share your story.

Chapter 7

On pages 46 and 47 the author uses foreshadowing which gives us hints of what might be coming next in the story.  What hints or clues did you notice?  Also, make an inference(prediction of what you think is going to happen).

Chapter 6

Brady is somewhat exhausted from his long day.  He says, it feels like its been a year since I have been home.  He then describes some things in his house that make him feel at home.  What are some things in your house that make you feel at home?  Make sure to use sensory language.

Chapter 5

We've got a pulse!  Brady does some quick thinking when he discovers Ben.  Brady remembers some training he received from the fire station workers.  What does he remember and how does he use it to help Ben?

Chapter 4

In Chapter 4 the search begins for Ben and Mrs. DiAngelo.  Mr. Parks(Brady's dad) goes up river with the rest of the rescue workers.  How does Brady help with the search?

Chapter 3

Today Brady got pulled from school by his dad and received some pretty devastating news.  What do you think is going through Brady's mind after speaking with his father?

In this chapter we learned about J.T. and Digger.  Describe their personalities thus far.

Chapter 1

In Chapter One Brady is struggling with something and we don't quite know what it is yet.  He is asking himself What if this?  What if that?  His dad tells him to stop thinking that way and says "You be lookin' backward all the time, Brady, you're gonna have one heck of a crook in the neck."  What do you think his dad is trying to tell him?  Have you ever been in a similar situation?
